Hunting Licence Take Return Information

Hunting licence holders must submit an annual ‘take return’. This helps the Department of Natural Resources and Environment Tasmania (NRE Tas):

  • sustainably manage game species

  • continue to support recreational hunting,

A take return:

  • is due by 30 November each year to support reporting purposes

  • captures information including species, number taken, and approximate location (for select species)

  • is required even if your take was zero

  • is not required for wallaby

  • is a legal requirement under Regulation 90 of the Nature Conservation (Wildlife) Regulations 2021

Licence holders that do not submit a take return for a current or previously held hunting licence, will not be able to purchase a new hunting licence.

Please note, the take return applies only to animals taken under your recreational hunting licence – do not include animals taken under a permit e.g. Property Protection Permit, Special Purposes Wildlife Permit.
