Public consultation was invited on the draft Nature Conservation (Wildlife) Regulations 2021 and the draft Nature Conservation Deer Farming Regulations 2021 during September 2021. The submissions received during this time allowed the Department to consider the perspectives and concerns of stakeholders in finalising the regulations. The Nature Conservation (Wildlife) Regulations 2021 (the Regulations) have now come into effect.
Submissions on the deer farming regulations indicated that the existing regulations require updating, and that there is widespread support for administrative reforms to ensure the regulations are contemporary and fit for purpose. As a result, the previous regulations relating to deer farming have been remade as the Wildlife (Deer Farming) Regulations 2021 with an expiry date of 1 July 2022 to allow for further stakeholder consultation. This will occur in conjunction with the Draft Fallow Deer Management Plan and to allow the regulations to be rewritten to ensure they deal with current issues.
Submissions made during public consultation are treated as public information and are published on this website, except where the submitter requested the submission remain confidential. Only personal contact information has been redacted from submissions.
Links to submissions and a submission summary table are included below.
The Department also received five submissions after the closing date of 30 September 2021. Due to the need to remake the Regulations before their expiry on 1 December, it was not possible to consider these submissions in the finalisation of the Regulations. These submissions are not published below.
